As melanated people from the Americas, we are often associated with our African ancestry.
Due to the 'Black Codes' (Code d'Noir) that Louis XVI installed in 1685, the term 'Black People'
became common to describe both our ancestors and us today.
This corrolated with the use of the term 'white people' (a term derived from an English 1613 theatre play!)
by Britain (back then Kingdom of England) since 1681 to refer to approved settlers in their colonies located in the Americas.
This is how this 'colour of law' duality emerged in our cultures and it led to much racial violence and political repression.
Add to this, there is also the tendency to seperate the history of 'Black people' from the history from other groups in human history.
This tendency, in academia, media, entertainment and politics denies the richer history of those classified as the 'African diaspora' or 'Black Community'.
In the Americas we are called 'Black Caribbeans', 'Afro Latinos', 'African Americans', 'Black Americans', etc.
As the founders, we are all from the Western Hemisphere and our ancestors have centuries long histories in the Americas, Europe and Africa. In addition, the history of our people is interconnected with the history of almost all other groups in human history. Some of us also have mixed ancestry including Europeans, indigenous and/or Asians (whether due to colonialism and/or migration waves that occured in history).
All of this inspired us to counter this 1492-narrative that mainly focusses on European colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade.
This eurocentric focus diminishes the accomplishments and perception of the descendants of enslaved peoples in the Americas.
Therefore, we established the Economic and Cultural Council of the Moriscos of Latin America
(Spanish: Consejo Económico y Cultural de los Moriscos de América Latina,
Portuguese: Conselho Económico e Cultural dos Mouriscos da América Latina,
French: Conseil économique et culturel des Morisques d'Amérique latine)
in late 2024 to emphasis the relevancy of Afro-Moorish communities in Latin America
and this is our motivation to continue with this investment group and humanitarian community.
As those from Afro-Morisco/Moorish descent, we organised ourselves as a council that invests capital, equity, and consultation to any business-owner, founder, and community project that shares our values.
Besides assisting business-owners and community initiatives, we ourselves also conduct commercial activities with the aim to boost the wordwide relevancy of Afro-Moorish peoples.
When it comes to community building, we establish (over time) holiday resorts and residential resorts to cultivate financial and economic centres for Afro-Moorish commerce, enterprise, and innovation throughout Latin America. Our real estate settlements are administred by our council, in harmony with the local laws and regulations of the countries in which we operate.
We value community effort, long-term prosperity and contributing to strong, sustainable trade in all parts of Latin America. We also partner with others outside of Latin America. We are also open to partner, invest, and collaborate with those outside of Latin America - on the condition that they allign themselves with the promotion and contribution to the prosperity of the Afro-Moriscos worldwide.
Our headquarters is in Guatemala City (Guatemala). For our own convenience, and to make our adminsitration more effective, we have divided Latin America in 'Morisco Districts'. These Morisco district are not political entities - only adminsitrative units to manage our projects, investments, and real estate settlements (village estates, holiday resorts, residential resorts, financial hubs, etc.). The district are based on anthropological and sociological insights about the history of Latin America to secure optimal functioning of our organisation. Each Morisco District is headed by a District Manager.
Three Districts (Guatemala/Central America, Haiti/Greater Antilles and Rio) are managed directly by the Board (consisting out of the founders) with a large degree of autonomy due to their strategic locations.
